Police Officer of the year


Inspector Mark Robertson joined Redbridge on promotion in 2000. His achievements include pioneering the way Redbridge tackles anti-social behaviour by setting up problem solving groups and developing protocols for working in partnership. Mark was instrumental in developing the retail theft initiative, and also coordinated several multi agency operations, particularly ‘Operation Bright Spark’ in response to the increase in crime around the firework period. He works endlessly, tackling crime and disorder, and supporting the local business community, to make Redbridge a better place for its residents.


Pc John McGranahan has been a Safer Neighbourhood constable in Bridge Ward since 2005. John has been a pro-active officer, making 43 arrests on his ward, conducting over 120 stop and searches and securing 28 convictions. Furthermore he has been the driving force behind a number of operations on his ward, including ANPR operations and drug search warrants. As a well-known face, he has been able to build strong relationships with members of the community. He is an inspiration to other officers and has set a good standard for achievement within this role.


Sgt Somerville heads up both the Clementswood and Loxford Safer Neighbourhood Teams. His has pioneered many initiatives within the borough, notably the use of tamper proof number plate screws, and also the Community Payback Scheme, that sees offenders repay the local community by regenerating areas that have deteriorated. Through neighbourhood watch meetings, advisory panels and community events, he has been able to forge close links and build relationships with members of Redbridge. He is a hard working officer, who is held in high esteem by both his colleagues and the local community.
